Q: When and where is the festival?
A: The 2017 festival will be held Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13, at Sunset Beach in Lake Sammamish State Park.
Q: What is the best way to get to the Northwest Paddling Festival?
A: Carpool or bike! Remember there is a $10 per vehicle entry fee into the festival due to state parks regulations, no matter how many people are in your vehicle. You can opt to buy a Discover Pass for $30 that is valid for all state parks and recreation lands.
Q: If I want to demo kayaks and SUPs, can I use a debit or credit card to pay?
A: While the event is free, there is a $7 charge to demo kayaks or SUPs. We will have two lines for credit cards and debit cards, but it will be much faster to have cash available during registration. There are no ATM machines at the event. Retailers will accept credit or debit cards for purchases.
Q: What should I wear/bring?
A: We suggest wearing clothing and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet. Be prepared for any weather with synthetic clothing and a water-resistant jacket. Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are always a good idea, even on overcast days. Quality paddling gear will also be available for purchase at exhibiting retailer booths. A change of clothing is also advisable, particularly if you plan to demo boats.
Q: Is the festival still on if it’s raining?
A: Yes! It’s on rain or shine, so bring your breathable rain jacket with a hood. With the use of spray skirts, paddling in the Northwest can be a year-round activity.
